THE TREASURE HUNT CONTINUES:
STILL MISSING – REMBRANDT’S ‘SENSE OF TASTE’
COULD THIS BE LANGUISHING IN SOMEONE’S ATTIC?
From a basement in New Jersey, to a reunion with its sister-paintings at the Getty museum. Another ‘Precious Old Master’ is discovered at auction. Dust-covered, the painting’s whereabouts previous to it’s unveiling, had remained a mystery.

Rembrandt’s ‘SMELL’ part of a five-part set, with one piece still missing
Now reunited with its sister paintings after an astonishing 300 years The Unconscious Patient (Allegory of Smell) joins Rembrandt’s series on the five senses; The Stone Operation (An Allegory of Touch), the Three Musicians (An Allegory of Hearing) and ‘A Pedlar Selling Spectacles’ (An Allegory of Sight).

Yet another Old Master – MIRACULOUSLY discovered in a basement – this time in a United States New Jersey home, the painting was offered at auction for just $500-$800. That was until its potential was spotted by an egal-eyed European collector prompting a bidding war which raised the price to $870,000.
The painting which has Rembrandt’s monogram on it, was eventually bought by the Leiden Collection, New York and restored.
With a critical shortage of Old Master paintings on the market, the yet-to-be-discovered ‘Sense of Taste’ will be quite a revelation.
Perhaps a clean out of that dusty old ATTIC might be in order. WHO KNOWS!
Best Wishes
